Dunville Heritage Community Garden

Situated in Redburn Country Park, behind the Holywood Men’s Shed, Dunville has been the focus of Holywood Shared Town’s Green Spaces Initiative, in partnership with the Conservation Volunteers (TCV). The partnership has been immensely valuable, helping to provide expertise across horticulture and biodiversity, ground preparation and installation of raised beds, seed sowing and planting, the running of our green gyms programme, as well as guidance in the sourcing of supplies, and event management.

Extensive work has been undertaken at the site, partially restoring the old Dunville family kitchen garden and part of their pleasure garden. This has come about not only through the tireless energy and commitment of our small team who steer the different elements of the programme, and also through the growing number of volunteers from the local community who are at the heart of our work and who have become the bedrock of the advances across the year. Many events have been a co-operation with Holywood Men’s Shed.

Our programme of twice-weekly green gyms continue to provide a valuable activity for people and families from all backgrounds and abilities; operating on Monday and Saturday mornings throughout the year. Green gyms provide an opportunity to learn about multiple aspects of sustainable growing, combined with outdoor physical exercise in the company of others, for all round positive wellbeing.
